Comedor Closes, Thistle & Leek To Open In Newton Centre
Comedor's owners announced the news recently on Facebook.

NEWTON, MA — A Newton Centre restaurant has closed, joining a growing list of restaurants and businesses that have had to close their doors recently amid the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, Comedor, which opened in 2014 on Union Street, shared on Facebook the news that they were closing, but a couple is set to open their first restaurant called Thistle & Leek in the space soon.
"It is definitely bittersweet –it is sad to say goodbye but we are so excited to see what Chefs Kate and Trevor Smith bring to this wonderful community," wrote Chef Fernanda Tapia, who co-owns the restaurant with her ex-husband and chef Jakob White.

According to Tapia, Kate and Trevor met cooking on the line at the Craigie Street Bistro more than a decade ago and since then have gone on to cook at restaurants such as Le Bernardin, Straight Wharf, Ventuno and Gramercy Tavern. Kate was also previously chef at Toro and Trevor was chef at Coppa.
Comedor served small plates inspired by the cuisines of America and Chile. The owners of Thistle & Leek describe it as a gastro pub and, earlier this year popped up hosting events to showcase and test out their menu.
