Newton Coronavirus: Ask The Mayor, Experts, On NewTV

The Newton mayor, Emergency Management director and Mass General's chief of infectious diseases doctor will be answering questions tonight.

NEWTON, MA — Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, Emergency Management Director Bruce Proia and Chief of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital Dr. Rochelle Walensky will be addressing neighborhood concerns live on NewTV Wednesday evening.

The live broadcast will air at 6 p.m. and comes amid response to the new coronavirus. This week the mayor declared a local State Of Emergency.

As of Wednesday, there are six cases of coronavirus in Newton, and 218 across the commonwealth. Tuesday the governor announced that all cases that previously categorized as presumptive positive will now be considered positive. Of the 218 cases, 89 of them were situated in Middlesex County, according to state data.

Of the total number of cases across the state, 102 of them are believed to have come from the Biogen conference in Boston in February, 33 of the cases are deemed to have come from "local transmission," and 24 are related to travel. Some 59 cases are still under investigation.

The program is a collaborative between NewTV’s Government Channel and the mayor’s
office. Anyone can call in with questions during the hour-long program by dialing

The program will be broadcast on all of NewTV’s channels (Comcast 9 • RCN 13, 614 (HD) •
Verizon 33) and will be livestreaming on NewTV’s website, newtv.org.
