Newton Coronavirus Update: Number Of Cases Rises To 34
The number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus in Newton has steadily increased this week, according to the mayor's office.

NEWTON, MA — The number of people who have tested positive for the new coronavirus has steadily grown this week, as the outbreak is having vast impacts in Newton, including the closure of schools into May. As of 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, the Newton Department of Health and Human Services reported 34 people have tested positive for coronavirus. On Monday, the city had 22 cases and Tuesday they had 28.
The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and measures and closures continue to be announced. The governor has declared a Stay at Home order. All non-essential businesses have been closed.
Notably, Middlesex County, of which Newton is a part, has the highest number of positives cases in the Commonwealth (446 as of Wednesday) and neighboring Suffolk County, which includes Boston has the second highest at 342. There are 1,838 positive cases in the commonwealth and some 15 people have died because of complications to the disease.
