Change Made In Newton Property Development Project
The revised plan includes more housing units.
NEWTON, MA — The City Council’s Land Use Committee voted unanimously to approve a revision by Northland Developments to the plans for the 22.6 acre location at the corner of Needham Street and Oak Street so it includes more housing units.
The former Saco-Pettee Mill will now be renovated into 100 housing units as opposed to office space. In total, the project is slated to include 822 residential units, with 145 of those being described by the city as “affordable.”
“While I’m disappointed that the commercial space was largely eliminated, I’m glad to see the project moving forward and housing being built,” Mayor Ruthanne Fuller said.
