Newton Police: Man Sleeps in Dumpster, Arrested for OUI; Man Allegedly Steals Cognac; Underage Drinking

The following are excerpts from the Newton police log. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

June 5

  • Police responded to 200 Boylston St. (Wegmans) for shoplifting in progress. Dispatch said that the suspect was still in the store and was the same suspect who had been stealing for the past few days. The man was described as black, wearing a black sweatshirt, brown pants, black hat and black shoes. He was seen stuffing two bottles of Hennessy Cognac into his pockets and fled the store without paying. Loss Prevention was able to detain the suspect until police arrived. The man was known from past shopliftings. Christopher Thompson, 48, 760 Cummings Highway, Mattapan, was arrested and charged with shoplifting by asportation.
  • Police were conducting alcohol enforcement and watching the area of Auburndale liquors and spotted a white Jeep Wrangler in the parking lot. The vehicle was occupied by three males, and appearing to be under 21. The car was parked in the lot for five minutes before leaving. Police followed the vehicle until it parked in front of The Auburndale Market. Police saw the driver enter the store and then come back. He returned to the store with a wallet. After about three minutes, police went into the store as the operator was exiting. He was carrying two 30-packs of Bud Light and one 30-pack of Bud. Police asked for his ID and he gave his MA license. When he was carded, he used a fake Pennsylvania ID. Police will take complaints against passengers - a male, 19, from Weston and another male, 19, from Weston - for persons under 21 in possession of alcohol. The driver, 19, from Weston, will be charged with procuring alcohol to underaged persons, using a fake license.

Incidents, June 6

  • Police were called to The Dressing Room for a report of larceny by check. Cristina Elian Dossantos, 50, 1202 Chestnut St., Newton, was arrested and charged with larceny by check over $250.
  • Police responded to EZ Storage for a report of an intoxicated party who was trying to spend the night in a storage unit. The person had an open warrant from Dedham District Court. Thomas Healy, 60, homeless, was arrested and charged with OUI liquor (second offense), marked lanes violation
