NEWTON, MA — A teen on psychedelic drugs punched an officer in the face on Thursday while the officer was trying to help him. As a result, police said they plan to charge the 18-year-old with assault and battery on an officer, according to a report.

Police were called to Weeks Park on Hereward Road June 25, for a report of someone on a "bad trip" on psychedelic mushrooms, according to a police report. The officer found the young man sitting up, but not fully aware of his surroundings, according to the report. The officer asked the man if he was OK and if he’d like to go to the hospital, the report said. Police said the teen stood up, had enlarged pupils but didn’t respond.

It wasn't until the officer and medics tried to escort the teen from the park, police said the teen punched him. The report did not indicate if there was a further struggle, how badly the officer was hurt or if the teen was taken to the hospital.
