Three Days After Sandy, Handful of Newton Streets Still Closed

Although the number of power outages and closed roads in Newton has dropped drastically in the last 24 hours, some residents are still struggling with impassable streets and lack of electricity after "Superstorm" Sandy.

As of this morning, nine streets in Newton remain closed or partially closed, according to information from the mayor's office. The streets include:

• Walnut Street closed south of Route 9
• Taft Street closed at #9
• Dexter Road
• Schofield Drive
• Adeline Road
• Fessenden Street
• Rowena Road
• Wood End Road
• Haynes Road

The number of closed roads has dropped quite a bit from yesterday; .

As of 11:30 a.m. today, nearly 600 Newton NSTAR customers are still without power, which makes up around 1 percent of the city's total number of customers.

Our helpful readers have informed us that power is still out on Harvey Place, Walnut Place and Clements Road.

According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency Twitter account, the Massachusetts state of emergency was officially lifted as of 9:20 a.m. Thursday.
