Today is Monday, March 4. Here are five things you need to know.

  • Rain: Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-40s most of the day, with rain showers in the afternoon.
  • Meeting: The Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Finance Committee will meet at 8 a.m. at Town Hall.
  • Parking: The town has announced that the winter parking ban is in effect until further notice.

  • This Day in History: In 1826, the first railroad in the nation was chartered, the Granite Railway in Quincy, Mass. In 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt gave his inauguration speech in which he said "We have nothing to fear, but fear itself." In 1933, Labor Secretary Frances Perkins became the first woman cabinet member. In 1954, the first successful kidney transplant was performed at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston.
