  • This Day in History: In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell received a patent for the telephone. In 1945, American forces crossed the Rhine River in Germany during World War II. In 1955, "Peter Pan" aired on television for the first time. In 1965, state troopers broke up a civil rights march in Selma, Ala.
