What Caused Yesterday's Power Outage?

This week's "You Ask... Patch Answers" looks at an electrical mystery.

The cause was a downed power line on Route 125. It seems the wire actually melted.

Residents reported outages from Barker Street all the way to Walker Road, including parts of downtown and the Police Department.

National Grid restored power in about an hour, but for those at home with air conditioning it was probably a scary hour.

Another area of concern was the high school, where the polls were. Luckily, the school was on a generator and Town Clerk Joyce Bradshaw said there was no impact on the voting process.

Emergency Management Director Jeff Coco -- who was at the high school -- notified the state and National Grid to help expedite the process of restoring power.

Residents are, of course, reminded to stay away from downed power lines.
