Northborough Holds Hazardous Waste Day, And Styrofoam Collection

Get rid of your hazardous waste in a safe and easy way.

NORTHBOROUGH, MA—Dump all of those household products in a safe manner.

Northborough is holding a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, during which residents can bring a labeled waste carrier to the DPW Garage at 190 Main St. between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Materials which will be permitted at the drop-off are as follows: Oils (spent motor oil), gasoline, gasoline mixtures, auto batteries, pesticides, paint thinners, fire extinguishers, spent antifreeze, oil-based paints and stains, photo chemicals, pool chemicals, household chemicals (drain cleaners, cleaners, detergents, etc.,) and aerosols.

Materials that will not be permitted at the drop-off are as follows: Fluorescent light bulbs and compact fluorescent light bulbs can be brought to Rocky’s Ace Hardware, 260 Main Street , Northborough any time. Latex paint or stain cans may be opened to the air to dry and disposed of with weekly trash once they become solid. Compressed gas cylinders (propane, oxygen, etc.,) smoke detectors, fireworks, ammunition, radioactives, tires, asbestos, white goods (refrigerators, etc.), pesticides containing Pentachlorophenol and/or 2, 4, 5-T/Silvex, PCB (capacitors, transformers, light ballasts).

No commercial vehicles or commercial wastes will be allowed.

Residents are requested to bring permitted materials to the drop-off in labeled containers (preferably in the original can, bottle, etc.) placed in the cardboard carrier. The contents shall be packaged in a neat and orderly manner.

In addition, once again metal items will be accepted at no charge (however, NO computers, refrigerators, microwaves, or electronics will be allowed.) Styrofoam collection will be done in conjunction with the Northborough Junior Women’s Club.

Boxes, which cost $10, are available for pickup in the basement of the Town Hall across the hall from the Recreation Center during the following times:

Saturday, Nov. 4, 9 a.m. to noon

Tuesday, Nov. 7, 7-9 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 7-9 p.m.
