Northborough Man Sentenced In Worcester Court For Nonprofit Embezzling
A Northborough man was sentenced to prison after he plead guilty to wire fraud and money laundering from a nonprofit in Sturbridge.
NORTHBOROUGH, MA - A Northborough man was sentenced in federal court for wire fraud and money laundering charges.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for Massachusetts, Kyriakos Kapiris, 38, embezzled roughly $366,477 from a nonprofit organization in Sturbridge.
Kapiris worked as an IT manager at Venture Community Services, a nonprofit servicing developmentally disabled community members, between April 2015 and May 2020. During that time he used company credit cards to purchase equipment from vendor accounts on Square and Amazon.

The vendor accounts were created by Kapiris to embezzle funds and falsify sales. He used the names of real Massachusetts companies for two of the accounts. The stolen funds were used for personal expenses, including building a house.
Kapiris was sentenced to two years in prison and five years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $371,088.97 in restitution and pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering.
