Man Charged in North End January 2012 Shooting

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police. Charges listed do not indicate charges.

An Attleboro man turned himself in on March 26, 2013 on charges relating to a shooting in January 2012.

Boston Detectives attempted to serve a warrant at 39 Ridgewood Street, Dorchester, at 7 p.m. on an outstanding warrant for a shooting near the North End.

The residents of the aforementioned address stated that the suspect did not live there anymore, that he had moved to Randolph. Officers went to 9 Glendale Road, Randolph, MA, at 8:20 a.m. and spoke to the occupant of the home, who stated that the suspect was in Attleboro. Officers arrived at 11 Daily Street, Attleboro at 9:45 a.m.. The occupant told officers that the suspect had gone to the police station at 40 Sudbury Street.

The suspect checked in to 40 Sudbury Street at about 10 a.m. and turned himself in.

On January 2, 2012, officers were working a paid detail at Hurricane O'Reillys at 150 Canal Street, Boston. At about 2:07 a.m., an officer heard multiple loud bangs, which he believed were gunshots.

As the officer made his way towards Valenti Way, the officer reportedly heard two more bangs. The officer radioed shots fired and observed two males get into a black Acura. The vehicle sped off on Canal Street towards Causeway Street. An officer in a cruiser attempted to stop the vehicle.

The Acura pulled over on the corner of Canal Street and Causeway Street, but was not put in park. At this point, the officer reported that a grey sedan pulled up extremely close to the cruiser, making it impossible for the officer to open the car door. The Acura took off. The officer attempted to follow the Acura, but the grey sedan cut in front of the officer, forcing him to cross the yellow line into oncoming traffic. The Acura turned on to North Washington Street. The officer followed, continuously having to avoid the grey sedan.

The officer lost the Acura as it turned onto 93 South. Just before turning onto Exit 18, the officer hit a white 2008 Ford Edge, causing minor damage to the driver’s side rear view bumper. Officers were able to arrest the driver of the grey sedan, but the Acura fled.

At 2:07 a.m., officers and EMS responded to a report of shots fired in the parking lot at Friend Street and Valenti Way. Officers located the victim, who had sustained two gunshot wounds. The victim had been shot in the head and the shoulder. The victim was transported to Mass General Hospital. 

Damek Barros of 11 Dale Street, Attleboro, MA was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, gun.
