Man Charged with Throwing Chair Through Merchants Row Store Window

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

A West Roxbury man was charged with attempting to throw a chair through a store window on Merchants Row.

At 12:57 a.m. on April 9, officers responded to a report of a breaking and entering by force at Jos. A. Bank on Merchants Row. A witness informed officers that a man had just attempted to throw a chair through a store window.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly saw a smashed window with a chair lying on its side in a pile of glass. The witness told police that they had witnessed two men attempted to throw a chair through the window of Clark’s. The chair reportedly bounced off the window. One of the men then picked up the chair and tried to throw it through the Jos. A. Bank window.

The witness described the men as white males, one wearing a Celtics jacket and one wearing a Red Sox jacket. The witness said that man in the Red Sox jacket was the one throwing the chair, while the man in the Celtics jacket stood by.

Officers located two men matching the provided description near Liberty Square. When officers attempted to speak to the men, the man in the Red Sox jacket took off running. The suspect started running up Water Street towards Congress Street and was almost struck by a garbage truck. While running up Water Street, the suspect was almost struck by a taxi. Officers were able to stop the suspect near 33 Congress Street.

The witness was able to identify the suspects. Officers went back to the scene and observed an expensive suit behind the window. Officers reported that this area has been victim to a rash of breaking and enterings in recent weeks in which many expensive items were taken. 

Officers arrested Robert Bunszell of 124 New Haven Street, West Roxbury and charged him with attempted breaking and entering, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and breaking glass.
