North End's Caffe Dello Sport Maintains Italian Traditions

Family-run business on Hanover Street serves tourists and a large gathering of people from the North End every day.

On any given morning, 80 percent of the customers in Caffe Dello Sport are North End residents.

The family-run cafe, now including the third generation, is located at 308 Hanover Street.

"Many locals come here to relax, see their friends, read and catch up on neighborhood news," said Mivan Spencer, who is the grandson of owner Angelo Cattaneo.

"I'm here every day either to work or check in with staff," said Mivan. "My mother, Ivana, works in the afternoon and my uncle, Ralph Cattaneo, works on weekends."

Mivan's father, Michael, is the manager of the cafe.

What makes the place special, Mivan believes, is that the cafe shows European football matches live almost every day.

"We also try to revolve the cafe around Italian heritage," Mivan said. "In addition to the football and people from the neighborhood speaking their native language, we have all authentic Italian products."

Even for people using their computers in Caffe Dello Sport there's an Italian flavor. The password for free WiFi is ACMilan2012.
