• Beacon Hill Democrats bristle at proposed ballot question to lower the income tax (wbur.org) — North End residents’ own state representative, Aaron Michlewitz, is leading opposition to a proposed ballot question that would cut Massachusetts’ income tax rate from 5% to 4%. He and other top Beacon Hill budget officials warn the change could strip up to $4.8 billion from state revenues, forcing deep cuts or other tax hikes, while business advocates argue it’s needed to keep the state affordable.
