Two Men Charged with Crack Possession on Canal Street

The following information was supplied by the Boston Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

Boston Police Officers conducted a drug investigation in the area of North Station on Tuesday, April 2.

At about 5 p.m., officers observed four to six males hanging outside the front door of 180 Canal Street. Officers recognized some of the men from prior drug related instances.

The group approached the two suspects, who held a brief conversation with some of the men, then officers report that one of the suspects removed something from his jacket pocket and place it into one of them men’s hands. The man handed the suspect some money and walked away.

The two suspects walked up Canal Street heading towards Valenti Way and then left on Friend Street. Officers watched as one of the suspects handed the other something from his coat pocket. Officers were certain they had just witnessed a street level drug transaction and approached the men, who were now at New Chardon Street.

Officers recovered two bags of crack cocaine from one of the suspects. When the officer asked where he got the bags from, the suspect motioned with his head towards the other suspect.

Officers charged Frank Hartgrett of 767 Chelsea, MA and Lawrence Drumgold of 57 Lisbon Street, Malden, MA with possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute.
