Despite Breaking School Records, Lancers Swimming Falls to Hopkinton

In a struggle against the 2010 Tri-Valley League champions, Lancers lost to the Hillers, 75-88.

It wasn't all bad news, though. Freshman Maddy Thomson, the team's first ever swimmer qualifying for the states, broke the school records for the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.72 and 500 freestyle, 5:35.72.

Sophomore Olivia Karcis was instrumental in setting several school records herself, with 2:33.03 in the 200 IM, 1:09.66 in the 100 backstroke.

In the 400 freestyle relay, comprised of Peter Le, Colin Ahern, Maddy Thomson and Olivia Karcis, they set a record of 4:08.90.

Other highlights were junior Peter Le snagging a second place finish in the 100 free with 1:04.84 and a third place finish by junior Max Cantin in the 100 breast with 1:21.15.

"Overall we swam extremely well. Hopkinton is a very strong team but it helped to push us to swim harder. We had a lot of very solid performances," said coach Kim Bray. 

The next meet is at Medfield on Tuesday.
