Norton Hazmat Incident: Homes Evacuated
There was a chemical spill in Norton at Tweave, a clothing manufacturer on Barrows Street. The immediate area was evacuated.

NORTON, MA — Norton officials ordered homes evacuated in the Barrows Street neighborhood Wednesday morning in response to a chemical spill at clothing manufacturer Tweave. No injuries were immediately reported. The spill involved chlorine, according to multiple reports.
Tweave is located at 138 Barrows Street. That street and part of South Worcester Street were closed. Homes in the area were evacuated.
Norton police said residents were allowed back in their homes and roads were reopened at about 4 p.m. The incident happened as light snow fell on the town.

The incident was declared a "Tier 3" hazmat incident, described as a "long-term operation."
Tweave, founded in 1951, makes sportswear and clothing for military and industrial applications. The cause of the spill was under investigation.
