Local Girl to Run Boston Marathon for Charity

Lauren McFarland, a Norwood native and current Physician Assistant at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, is running the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 16, to benefit Team Brigham.

This will be McFarland's first full marathon.

Team Brigham is a charity that has been in existence since 1998 and has raised over $5 million dollars to help improve the health of families in Boston.  

Lauren is 2004 graduate of Norwood High School and daughter of Peter and Robin McFarland of Norwood. Lauren's personal goal is not only finishing the marathon, but also to raise $5,000 for the cause. Lauren has been training hard for the past year and recently finished her 21 mile “warm-up” run, a major step to prep for the big event. 

"The Boston Marathon has been a dream of mine since high school when I went to watch a friend's aunt run the marathon," McFarland said. "This dream has been in the back of my mind, I just didn't know how I would accomplish it until I started working at Brigham and Women's Hospital last year. I saw a video about Team Brigham in a weekly newsletter that is sent out at the Brigham. I knew then that I wanted to be part of a team that supports the patients I work with on a daily basis."

"I am most looking forward to helping many patients and families in the greater Boston area and completing one of the most challenging marathons in the world," she continued. "I also hear that the crowd is like no other for the whole 26.2 miles which I know will keep me excited and motivated!"
