Norwood 13-Year-Old Died By Gunshot: Police
Boston police said they found 13-year-old Coakley Middle School student Tyler Lawrence shot to death Sunday.

NORWOOD, MA — The Norwood 13-year-old boy who died over the weekend was shot to death in Mattapan late Sunday morning, the Boston Police Department confirmed in a news release Monday.
The shooting occurred at around 11:32 a.m. in the 100 block of Babson Street, where Boston police said they found 13-year-old Coakley Middle School student Tyler Lawrence shot to death.
"Tyler Lawrence was well-loved and a valuable member of our Coakley community," Norwood Public Schools Superintendent David Thomson wrote in a news release Tuesday. "His bright smile was on display every morning, and he made friends wherever he went. He was an avid basketball player, and enjoyed sports and being outside."

Thomson said that the district is making counselors available in all school buildings for several days so that students, faculty, and staff may come together, support one another, and heal.
"On behalf of the entire NPS community, we offer our sincerest and heartfelt condolences to Tyler’s family, friends, and loved ones following this senseless tragedy," Thomson said. “This is an extremely difficult time for all, and I encourage anyone who may be having an especially difficult time coping with this news to reach out for assistance."

The Boston Police Department is urging anyone with information in regard to Lawrence's death to call Boston Police Homicide Detectives at (617) 343-4470.
