Norwood Legion Capitalizes on Wild Pitches to Beat Medfield

Norwood Post 70 beat Medfield Post 110 last night, 11-4.

Norwood Post 70 took one step closer to postseason play last night with a win over Medfield Post 110, 11-4.

Medfield held a 4-2 lead heading into the top of the fourth inning when things began to unravel for pitcher Sam Jordan. With Norwood infielder Jordan Davis at the plate, Jordan threw a wild pitch that sailed to the backstop. Davis reached first on the strikeout and advanced from first to all the way to home to score a run on three more wild pitches from Jordan making the score 4-3.

“We didn’t pitch well. We didn’t field well. We made mental mistakes. It was just a bad game against a good team,” said Medfield head coach James Lagos.

Jordan then loaded the bases with Norwood's Sean Keady at the plate who laced a single into center field scoring two runs and chasing the Medfield pitcher from the game, giving Norwood a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth Norwood brought in pitcher Michael Goodwin who shut down Medfield's offense for the rest of the game.

“He hasn’t pitched in two years because of some arm troubles,” Norwood head coach Paul Samargedlis said of Goodwin. “They’re a good hitting team and to come and shut the door while we scored a couple runs and caught up was important.”

With the score 6-4 in the top of the sixth inning Norwood continued their aggressiveness on the base path leading to mental errors and poor defense by Medfield. Norwood scored four more runs in the inning to make the score 10-4 and put the game out of reach.

Norwood is now 14-2 on the season leading the District 6 West standings.
