Norwood Opens Central Street To Dining, Pedestrian Access
Norwood is promoting Summer on Central Street to bring residents into local businesses while providing outdoor dining and walking.
NORWOOD, MA — Norwood is getting creative in its attempts to support local businesses and offer recreation to residents while keeping people safe amid the continued coronavirus pandemic.
The town is hosting "Summer on Central," shutting down a portion of Central Street, between Cottage Street East and Nahatan Street for communal dining and pedestrian access. To support local businesses as they reopen, the outdoor dining options on Central Street, both at restaurants and at the public picnic tables on Central Street, offer access to all residents without having to step foot inside.
The street closure will continue throughout the summer until the end of September.

The idea of a pedestrian area for communal activities and outdoor dining had been on the minds of Norwood officials for some time but the effects of COVID-19 on businesses spurred the idea into fruition as a way to support. Central Street was primed as the ideal spot since it's so close to public transportation, restaurants and requires little traffic tweaking to close roads.
