Two Norwood Firefighters Promoted to Lieutenant
The Norwood Fire Department would like to announce the recent promotions of Daniel Harkins and David Hayes.

The Norwood Fire Department would like to announce the recent promotions of two of its members, Firefighter Daniel Harkins and Firefighter David Hayes, to the rank of Norwood Fire Lieutenant.
Lt. Harkins is a 23-year veteran of the Norwood Fire Department. He grew up in Norwood and was a Class of 1984 graduate of NHS and a 1988 graduate of Framingham State College. Lt. Harkins is married to Norwood's own Carolyn Armour and they have two daughters, Lauren and Samantha.
Lt. Hayes is a 17-year veteran of the Norwood Fire Department and he served as a Lieutenant on the Marshfield Fire Department for five years. Lt. Hayes graduated from Marshfield High School, is an Air Force veteran and he attended the Community College of the Air Force. Lt. Hayes has four children: Brian, Candice, Adam and Samantha.

The Lieutenant's promotional exam is an open, competitive, 80 question exam based on 10 books: Fire Company Officer, Fire Inspection and Code Enforcement, First Responder (Medical), Haz Mat for First Responders, National Incident Management System, Mass. Gen. Laws Chapter 148, Pumping Apparatus/Driver Handbook, Bldg. Construction Related to the Fire Service, Engine Company Operations, Ladder Company Operations. Passing the exam is the first step in the promotional process, the next step is waiting for an actual lieutenant vacancy to open up, then after interviewing with Chief Howard and Deputy Chief Maggio a selection is made for the open position.
