Library to Host 'Common Good Reads' Discussion Series

The multi-session series will begin with a discussion of "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao"

PEABODY, MA - The Peabody Institute Library will host the Mass Humanities “Common Good Reads” series beginning on Tuesday, May 31.

The five-part program considers life in the United States through the eyes of diverse people living here today.

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the relationship between literature, culture and politics and their connection to each other in 21st century America

The program will focus on Pulitzer prize-winning novels and journalistic accounts examining the challenges of negotiating the social contract through the pressing issues of our day: immigration, gender, police brutality and religion.

On May 31, the group will discuss “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao,” which is available at the Main Library.

After the first meeting, sessions will be held June 7, 21, 28 and July 5 from 7 to 8 p.m.
