Peabody Police Dog Dies After Sudden Illness
Officer Corey Salvo and his wife were by Caine's side when he died Thursday.

PEABODY, MA — Caine, the police dog credited with helping the Peabody police department find more than 30 missing or wanted people, died Thursday. The 4.5-year-old dog had worked with Officer Corey Salvo since joining the department in 2016. Salvo and his wife were with Caine when he died.
In a statement, Peabody police said Caine became ill Wednesday night and doctors at Bulger Veterinary Hospital said he would be unable to survive the illness. The department plans to hold a memorial service for Caine at a later date.
Caine and Salvo were credited with tracking down a domestic abuse suspect who fled into a wooded area when police responded to a call in 2018. Salvo and Caine's training, as well as the outfitting of a police cruiser to transport Caine, was paid for by a grant from the Stanton Foundation.
