Star Student Athlete: Peabody's Siobhan Smith

PEABODY, MA — We all know student-athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We're working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Holly Smith, who nominated Siobhan Smith of Peabody.

She is a three-sport athlete at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School who has committed to play lacrosse at the University of New England next year.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Although a great athlete in all her sports, and recently committed to play lacrosse in college, she is a hardworking student who puts countless hours into her school work.

She takes every opportunity to do well in school and she somehow even with a grueling schedule gets amazing grades.

Her best attribute is her leadership. She has always been a player who wants to help the younger players. She is a true mentor to the girls she has helped over the years.

Being named captain for field hockey and lacrosse, the coaches also saw her ability to make other girls comfortable, included and cared for. I couldn't be more proud of Siobhan.

I didn't mention her volunteering yet, but she has helped at the food pantry, youth sports, Special Olympics, school events the list goes on. Also a member of DECA. Just a great all-around person.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

That what you see is what you get. Most honest and unapologetically herself. She doesn't pretend to be someone she is not. A leader!
