The YMCA of Metro North is honored to announce the appointment of Chief Thomas Griffin, Chief of Police of the City of Peabody, to its Board of Directors. With more than three decades of distinguished leadership in public safety and community engagement, Chief Griffin brings a wealth of experience that will support and strengthen the Y’s mission to serve children, families, and individuals across the region.

Chief Griffin has led the Peabody Police Department since July 2014. Under his command, the department—comprising 100 sworn officers, reserve officers, civilian dispatchers, animal control officers, administrative staff, and volunteers—has embraced a philosophy of prevention-focused, community-oriented policing to sustain public safety and quality of life.

Throughout his tenure, Chief Griffin has prioritized initiatives that resonate with YMCA values, including the Autism Awareness Program, Silver Alert Program, Cops for Kids with Cancer, and elder affairs outreach. His leadership in the department’s training efforts and dedication to respectful, equitable policing complement the YMCA’s commitment to inclusion, health, and community resilience.
