112-Pound Marijuana Bust In Massachusetts: Police

Wareham police said a report of suspicious packages turned out to be 112 pounds of marijuana; Michael Chen, of Rhode Island, was arrested.

WAREHAM, MA — A report of suspicious packages in Wareham this week turned out to be 112 pounds of marijuana, leading to the arrest of a Rhode Island man, according to police. Michael Chen, 40, of Providence, Rhode Island, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking. Police said the incident happened Wednesday at Cape Cod Express, a Wareham-based shipping company. Workers contacted police after encountering two wooden crates.

"A male (Chen) claiming ownership of the packages arrived at Cape Cod Express and took possession of the crates," Wareham police said in a statement."Chen ... was confronted by detectives and consented to a search of the crates, which led to the discovery of marijuana packaged in 60 plastic food saver bags in one crate, and 52 bags containing marijuana packaged in another. The total weight of the marijuana found in the crates was 112 pounds."

The street value of the drugs could be $250,000 or more.

Chen's 2017 Ford F-250 was seized for "possible forfeiture," police said, as it may have been purchased with drug money.
