3 Rescued In Plymouth After Sailboat Gets Lodged Into Ground Offshore

All three people rescued were taken by ambulance to the hospital to be evaluated, authorities said.

PLYMOUTH, MA — Three people were rescued in Plymouth Wednesday morning after their sailboat ran aground, according to the Plymouth Fire Department.

Authorities said they received a call around 7:30 a.m. about a boat in distress in the waters near Center Hill Road.

Before rescuers arrived, neighbors — including Retired Plymouth Fire Battalion Chief Michael Roy — put on wetsuits and attempted to assist the stranded sailors, authorities said.

Plymouth firefighters got to the scene to find the 40-foot-long sailboat lodged around 75-100 feet offshore. They entered the water in survival gear and made their way toward the vessel, rescuing the two men and a woman onboard and safely taking them to land, according to authorities.

All three people rescued were taken by ambulance to the hospital to be evaluated, authorities said.

The National Weather Service issued a Small Craft Advisory until Wednesday evening due to strong winds affecting Massachusetts coastal waters.

"Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions," the agency wrote in the advisory.
