📰 News we're reading
• Select Board won't support e-bike regulations (plymouthindependent.org) — Plymouth’s Select Board has voted 3-2 against sending proposed e-bike regulations to spring Town Meeting, so riders won’t face new local rules anytime soon. After strong public pushback, the board shelved requirements like registration fees and age limits, though some members say they may revisit safety measures after more input and state guidance.

• Fearing it would anger unions, Select Board rejects move to rein in healthcare costs (plymouthindependent.org) — Plymouth’s Select Board has narrowly rejected a proposal to phase out a generous retiree health insurance benefit for future hires, despite mounting budget pressures and a $580 million OPEB liability. Supporters argued the change would gradually reduce one of the town’s biggest costs, while opponents said it should be negotiated with unions first before going to Town Meeting.

• This week in history: Dec. 18 to Dec. 24 (nsjonline.com) — Local history buffs may appreciate that this week-in-history roundup highlights Dec. 21, 1620, when Pilgrims from the Mayflower first went ashore at present-day Plymouth. The piece also recalls major national and global milestones, from the 13th Amendment to the premiere of “It’s a Wonderful Life” and the creation of the Federal Reserve.
