7-Year-Old Rescued From Barricade After Stabbing: Plymouth Police
A Plymouth man stabbed a person before barricading himself with a child Saturday evening, according to police.

PLYMOUTH, MA — A Plymouth man stabbed a person and barricaded himself inside a home with a 7-year-old boy, who was eventually rescued, according to police.
Authorities were called Saturday evening to the lower end of Samoset Street. The stabbing victim was taken to South Shore Hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening, police said. The suspect, Herman Smith, 50, barricaded himself in the residence with the child, according to police.
Smith refused commands to exit or release the boy, but authorities were able to retrieve the child from a second-story window, police said. After the boy was brought to safety, a SWAT team swept the home, found Smith hiding in a closet and took him into custody, according to police, who said Smith was charged with several felonies.

Charges include assault to murder, assault and battery, child endangerment and resisting arrest, Boston 25 News reported, adding the incident took over five hours to resolve and Smith’s bail was set at $250,000.
