PLYMOUTH, Mass. – On Thursday, June 5, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts (BBBSEM) hit a major milestone with its 50th annual Golf Classic at Pinehills Golf Club. The golden-anniversary event raised more than $1.2 million to support BBBSEM’s life-changing one-to-one youth mentoring programs, bringing together more than 440 golfers for a day of friendly competition, camaraderie, and giving back to the community.

With sunny skies and a palpable sense of excitement, golfers teed off for a full day of action, with all proceeds benefiting the nonprofit's mission pairing youth with caring adult mentors who help them to reach their fullest potential. This year’s Golf Classic not only celebrated the success of the program but also marked a significant moment in BBBSEM’s legacy of service, as the organization continues to empower local youth.
The event kicked off at 8:30 a.m., with participants arriving to a warm welcome. Following the 9 a.m. shotgun start, golfers enjoyed a scenic round of golf before gathering for a cocktail reception later in the day. During the reception, Mark O'Donnell, President and CEO of BBBSEM, spoke about the nonprofit's mission and the profound impact that mentoring can have on both youth and their communities.
“I’m incredibly proud of our community for coming together today to celebrate this milestone and support the future of youth mentoring,” says O'Donnell. “Our 50th annual Golf Classic is a reminder that when we invest in our youth, we create a brighter, more hopeful future for all.”
A special highlight of the event was a powerful testimonial from Akeem Walcott, a Board of Advisor member and volunteer mentor, who shared his personal experience and the transformative power of mentoring.
The day ended with a heartfelt thank-you to all supporters, volunteers, and participants who helped make the event a success. In total, more than $1.2 million was raised to support BBBSEM’s continued efforts to match local youth with caring, adult mentors across the region.
As one of the state's leading one-to-one youth mentoring organizations, BBBSEM continues to grow its impact, now reaching nearly 4,000 youth annually. The organization recently merged with the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, expanding its ability to serve youth across Massachusetts. With a vision to impact 10,000 youth in 150 communities by 2028, BBBSEM is poised to continue its legacy of empowering the next generation of leaders.
