First MA Snow Of The Season For Many: Who Got The Most?

While much of the state received a coating, areas of southeastern Massachusetts had a messy morning commute with up to 3.5 inches Wednesday.

PLYMOUTH, MA — Even a relatively light snowfall by New England standards can wreak havoc on a morning commute when drivers haven't had to deal with slippery roads for eight months or more.

That was the case on Wednesday morning as a cold front combined with ocean-enhanced snow caused the Bourne Bridge to be closed for a time in one direction while much of Route 3 was a wintry mess.

While no one will mistake Wednesday morning for the Blizzard of '78, there were areas of the southeastern part of Massachusetts that picked up nearly four inches of snow.

Here are the top snowfall amounts in the state as reported to the National Weather Service as of late Wednesday morning:

Norwell — 3.5 inches

Weymouth — 2.3 inches

Hingham — 2.0 inches

Kingston — 2.0 inches

Whitman — 2.0 inches

Sandwich — 2.0 inches

Plymouth — 1.7 inches

Falmouth — 0.5 inches

Ipswich — 0.5 inches

Boston — 0.1 inches

Medford — 0.1 inches

The sun should shine for most on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of cold and clear days ahead before a weekend warmup when the temperatures are forecast to close in on 60 by Sunday afternoon and evening.
