Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 15

1. TRAX with Emily will perform at the Sandcastle Lounge at Pilgrim Sands tonight from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

2. The Gallery at PACTV will feature two artists, Caroline Garrett (photography) and Erika Christensen (multi-media), from March 9 to 19.

An artist’s reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 15. The Gallery is located in the PACTV studios at 4 Collins Ave. in Plymouth. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday; and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

3. The South Shore Folk Music Club will present its Traditional Ballad Singing Contest at 8 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the Beal House, at 222 Main St. in Kingston. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The contest is open to contestants in grades 4 through 12. This year, there is a category for contestants who have graduated from high school through age 25. There will be cash prizes. Sign up by March 8. Tickets are $7 per member, $8 for non-members and $4 per child. For details, visit www.southshorefolkmusicclub.org.

4. The fifth annual Score for a Cure Soccer Tournament for breast cancer causes is scheduled for March 15-17 at the JunglePlex in Plymouth. This event welcomes adult soccer teams from all over the eastern United States for a weekend of fun, competition and fundraising for a wonderful cause. This year’s tournament has added something special; a visit from a pink fire truck will mark the midpoint of the event.

The pink fire truck will be arriving at noon Saturday, March 16, escorted to the JunglePlex by local fire and law enforcement agencies. The truck is part of the “Pink Heals – Guardians of the Ribbon” movement, founded by former big league ballplayer and retired firefighter Dave Graybill. These pink fire trucks travel around the country visiting breast cancer related events to help raise awareness and raise funds for local, small breast cancer charities. The fire truck will be parked by the JunglePlex during the afternoon March 16 for those that would like to come check it out and help Score for a Cure raise money for local breast cancer related programs and those affected by the disease.
