Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 16

1. American Legion Post 40 is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day dinner dance at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 16. Enjoy a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner, followed by dancing to the Corvairs. 2. Plimoth Plantation will present a Night of Food and Film, featuring the award-winning documentary We Still Live Here, Saturday, March 16, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Wampanoag Indigenous Program. The film will be accompanied by a tasting of Wampanoag foods and a question and answer session led by the filmmaker, Anne Makepeace. We Still Live Here tells a story of cultural revival by the Wampanoag of Southeastern Massachusetts. Their ancestors ensured the survival of the first English settlers in America, and lived to regret it. Now they are bringing their language home again.

This event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple and can be purchased by calling 508-746-1622, ext. 8346, or online at foodandfilmnight.eventbrite.com.

3. Registration is now open for the Plymouth Youth Hockey 2013/14 season. All players must register online at the PYH website during the open registration period to be eligible to participate in tryouts. Registration will be open from March 1 to 22. To complete your registration, proceed to the PYH website at www.plymouthyouthhockey.net. If you are new to the program, click the Register Online tab on the left side of the screen and then create your new account. If you already have an account, click the Log In tab at the top right of the page and enter the email address and password you used to register last year. 4. The fifth annual Score for a Cure Soccer Tournament for breast cancer causes is scheduled for March 15-17 at the JunglePlex in Plymouth. This event welcomes adult soccer teams from all over the eastern United States for a weekend of fun, competition and fundraising for a wonderful cause. This year’s tournament has added something special; a visit from a pink fire truck will mark the midpoint of the event.

The pink fire truck will be arriving at noon Saturday, March 16, escorted to the JunglePlex by local fire and law enforcement agencies. The truck is part of the “Pink Heals – Guardians of the Ribbon” movement, founded by former big league ballplayer and retired firefighter Dave Graybill. These pink fire trucks travel around the country visiting breast cancer related events to help raise awareness and raise funds for local, small breast cancer charities. The fire truck will be parked by the JunglePlex during the afternoon March 16 for those that would like to come check it out and help Score for a Cure raise money for local breast cancer related programs and those affected by the disease.
