Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 3

Pioppi's "Sunday School" wine seminar seriecontinues today with Vintners' Delight with the Rye Tavern.

1. Pioppi's "Sunday School" wine seminar series. Unlike the Sunday School you attended as a kid, this series features 6 dates, five restaurants, 24 different dishes, six wine experts and 48 different wines. March 3, Vintners' Delight with Rye Tavern. All sessions are at the store and run from 1 p.m.-3p.m. Tickets $40 per person, per session (tax and gratuity included) and available at Pioppi's, 183 Court Street, Plymouth or, via phone, by calling (508) 746 1943.

2. Poetry: The Art of Words, the Mike Amado Memorial Series, will be held Sunday, March 3, at the Plymouth Center for the Arts, at 11 North St. The featured poets will be Charles Coe and Doug Holder. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., the music starts at noon, followed by poetry at 12:10 and an open mic at 1:15. Admission and refreshments are free.

3. Join a Department of Conservation and Recreation forester and a DCR naturalist for a fun and frosty trek exploring winter trees, shrubs and groundcovers from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3. Participants will walk through the forest and near wetlands to learn about Myles Standish State Forest’s winter greens. After the walk, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and a snack. Meet at Headquarters parking lot at 194 Cranberry Road in South Carver.

This walk is best for adults. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy winter footwear. The walk is about 2 and a half miles; weather and ground conditions will determine the route. 4. Online registration for all South Plymouth Youth Baseball players ages 4-12 is open until April 30. Visit www.SPYB.org for details. Find a description of each division by either clicking on the “Register Now” button or the SPYB Divisions tab on the left side of the homepage. Email your questions to spybinfo@comcast.net. Spring tryouts for both American League (ages 10-12) and National League (ages 7-9) will be held March 23 and 24 at Elmer Raymond field in Cedarville. Times are posted on the website. Players must register before trying out.
