MA Man Dead, 2 Children Seriously Injured After Car Crashes Into River

The man, a 9-year-old boy, and a 13-year-old girl all suffered serious injuries in the crash, which ultimately killed the man.

PLYMOUTH, MA — A 50-year-old man is dead and two children are seriously injured after the man crashed his car into the Eel River in Massachusetts Friday, according to Massachusetts State Police.

"For reasons still to be determined," the 2015 Nissan Rogue went off the southbound lanes of Route 3 near the 10.6-mile-marker and over a guardrail before landing on its roof in the river just after 5 p.m., police said.

The man, identified as Daniel Zilinski, was extricated from the car with hydraulic tools and taken by medical helicopter to a Boston trauma center, where he died.

The children — a 9-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl — were transported to a hospital by ambulance and are still hospitalized with serious injuries.

The left and right travel lanes were closed for nearly three hours. During that time, traffic was able to pass in the breakdown lane, while analysis and cleanup took place, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit.
