Temporary Memorial Opens For Clancy Children And Laney Ladd

The "4 Angels Memorial" is a temporary memorial for Laney Ladd, who died of a sudden illness in December, and the three Clancy children.

DUXBURY, MA — A temporary memorial has been enacted outside the Holy Family Church to honor the lives of four Duxbury children who died too soon.

The "4 Angels Memorial" is a temporary memorial for Laney Ladd, 6, who died of a sudden illness in December, and Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan Clancy, 8 months, who were allegedly killed by their mother Lindsay in January.

The memorial features four searchlights—three yellow and one purple—pointing toward the sky. It is set up on the lower grass area of the Holy Family Church in Duxbury and opened on the evening of March 1 with a candlelight vigil.

It's a "symbol of their eternal light and to honor their memory," wrote Douglas Handfield, who organized a GodFundMe campaign to help fund the project.

Handfield said that Lindsay's husband Pat and the Ladds gave the project their full approval. The town of Duxbury select board approved the project and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the rental of the searchlights and the electric bill at Holy Family Church, he added.

Any additional funds raised will be donated to the "Love for Lane" playground project, according to Handfield.

"Thank you all who attended the opening night of the memorial last night," Handfield wrote in an update March 2. "The lights worked amazing and it started snowing, only above the lights, right after they were turned on."

As of Friday afternoon, the fundraiser for the memorial had reached $9,800 of its $18,000 goal.

According to her obituary, Laney, born in June 2016, "had a vibrant and loving free spirit which was cherished by all who knew her."

"She was a kind, funny, affectionate and happy kid who gave the biggest hugs," the obituary reads.

She died Dec. 19 "after a brief and sudden illness," according to her obituary.

Cora, Dawson, and Callan died from injuries they sustained in their Duxbury home on Jan. 24. Their mother, Lindsay, is facing charges in their deaths.
