Quincy Dedicates Corner To One Of MA's First COVID-19 Victims

QUINCY, MA — The City of Quincy dedicated a permanent tribute on Saturday to one of Massachusetts' first COVID-19 victims, Marine Sergeant Daniel Dewey.

The corner of Sonoma Road and Essex Street in Squantum has been dedicated in Sgt. Dewey's name.

Sgt. Dewey died on April 3, 2020, at the age of 76. He was among the first 250 victims of Coronavirus from Massachusetts.

Gov. Bill Weld appointed Sgt. Dewey to the Massachusetts parole board in 1993, and was the board’s longest-serving member in state history, according to CBS Boston.

To date, there have been over 666,287 COVID-19 cases reported in Massachusetts, according to usafacts.org.
