Buy Local: April 27 to 29

The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce is supporting another Buy Local Weekend.

The following was submitted by The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce:

The wants you to buy local. Their Buy Local campaign, launched in the fall of 2011, focuses on the strong impact spending locally has on our community.

Before you spend your dollars out of town, please think of the wonderful businesses we have right here in Reading & North Reading. Next time you consider driving to a large retailer out of town, remember that for every $100 you spend locally, $68 stays in stays in Reading or North Reading through taxes, job creation and charitable donations. Buying locally is also environmentally friendly because it creates less traffic and pollution. And with the price of gas approaching $4/gallon, buying locally also saves you money on gas. Think of the last donation you received for a fundraiser you were working on —chances are it came from a local small business willing to help you, not a big box store. Return the favor and buy local first to support businesses that support our com- munity.

The buy local movement is a circular equation. Small businesses support our towns by donating to numerous community organizations. A business can only do this if it is thriving, and businesses will thrive if consumers spend locally. A little from everyone will go along way to keep our business community strong.

The Chamber encourages everyone to help strengthen our economy and community by buying locally the weekend of April 27th - 29th. Many businesses will be offering “Buy Local” deals that weekend—watch for specific details to be advertised in participating local stores.
