Sixth Annual Summer Solstice Concert

The Martins Pond Association presents its Sixth annual Summer Solstice concert featuring the North Reading Community Band.   The ensemble will perform a free concert on Thursday, June 21 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm at Clarke Park…weather permitting.  This is the band’s first outdoor concert of the summer.  Sit on the beach with your blanket, commandeer a picnic table, or just bring a lawn chair. You can, of course, come by boat from the pond side.

Judith Allen will once again conduct the 20 piece concert band which began performing back in 1979.

The marquee Broadway piece is a medley from West Side Story.  Among the other pieces selected for this years’ concert are two Leroy Anderson arrangements from the Irish Suite.  Franz Von Suppe’s,  Queen of Spades , which drifts more towards the classical, and then the swingin‘,  In the Miller Mood ; an echo from Glenn Miller and the  Big Band era.  The band will also perform “On the Trail” from Ferde Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite.

Selections from Finian’s Rainbow are also on the program and as usual, a tune or two can be expected from the Dixieland band-within-the-band, “No Reading”.

Each year North Reading Community Band presents two free concerts for the town.
