“Cape-ability,” the Friends of the Reading Public Library’s 18th House Tour, shapes up to be a real crowd-pleaser. Plan setting aside Sunday, May 6 between 1 and 5 p.m. for this wonderful fundraising event.

Each of the 9 houses distinguishes itself architecturally. Although nearly all owners have renovated small kitchens into larger, more functional ones, often by removing walls, each remains cozy enough to draw family and friends.

Another common feature in many of our tour homes is the addition of a family room, this time with varying looks and sizes. In some cases the owners have been their own contractors, with beautiful results.

Others have expanded with full dormers, added a porch, or bumped out in back or on the side for a larger downstairs bedroom.

Whether you grew up in a Cape, live in one, or wonder about the adaptability of this versatile and quintessential New England architectural style, “Cape-ability” will provide many answers – and probably even more inspiration!

Proceeds from the tour fund many library activities, including various children programs, the Summer Reading program, Live Wires, many museum passes, etc.

This year’s tour is generously sponsored by Pat Black of , Inc.

Tickets are on sale at the at $25, $20 for Friends members.
