North Reading School District to Hold Groundbreaking for New School

The North Reading School District scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for the new middle/high school. The groundbreaking will take place on Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. at North Reading Middle School.

According to Secondary School Building Committee member Janene Imbriano, the event will feature speakers including Superintendent Kathleen Willis, John (Jack) McCarthy of the MSBA, Senator Bruce Tarr, Representative Brad Jones, Selectmen Chairman Sean Delaney, School Committee Chairman Mel Webster, Town Administrator Greg Balukonis and Secondary School Committee Chairman Chuck Carucci. High school senior Janelle Yull will sing the National Anthem and other students will sing as well. 

In addition, about 12 students will wear hard hats and break ground with shovels, Superintendent Kathleen Willis said. There will be one student from each elementary school, three from the middle school and six from the high school.

High school Principal Jon Bernard said the students were "so excited to be a part of it."

Bernard is looking forward to the groundbreaking event, and is excited about the new school.

"This is the ultimate adventure in a career in education, to be part of the construction of a new school," he said.

It will be an extremely proud moment for the community, Bernard told Patch.

After the ceremony, hot cider and cider donuts will be served in the middle school cafeteria.
