Possible Gun Shot Reported in Reading

The following is an excerpt from the Reading Police Department log. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the  log from Thursday. The information is open to the public.

Thursday, April 12

  • At 9:04 a.m., a caller reported a suspicious person on Sunnyside Avenue running from the cul-de-sac. Police found that the person was running to catch a train.
  • At 10:53 a.m., a Haverhill Street resident reported a phone call that he thought was a scam. The phone call came from an unknown security company that said they wanted to visit his home and perform a check of the residence.
  • At 1:44 p.m., a caller reported a car accident on Avalon Road. No injuries were reported.
  • At 1:46 p.m., a caller reported a suspicous man on Main Street. The caller was getting out of his car when a man approached him and asked a question. The caller got nervous, got back into his car and drove away. As he was driving away, the man kicked his car. Police spoke to the man, who admitted to kicking the car, but was only asking the caller for jumper cables. A family member of the man was called and provided the jumper cables.
  • At 5:21 p.m., a caller reported a car accident on Main Street. No injuries were reported.
  • At 8:53 p.m., a caller reported the smell of marijuana substance coming from an apartment on Summit Drive. Officers spoke with the woman living in the apartment who admitted to smoking marijuana earlier in the night. Police went into her apartment, but did not see any evidence of marijuana.
  • At 11:11 p.m., a caller reported a possible gunshot in the area of Sanborn Street. Police checked the area and found that it appeared to be fireworks.
