Reading Fire Department Names New Chief
The department promoted from within for its next fire chief in a move the town approved earlier this week.
READING, MA — Assistant Fire Chief Richard Nelson has been selected to be the town's next fire chief.
He was unanimously approved for the position at a recent Reading Select Board meeting.
"He achieved the highest score in the selection process and will assume the role next month as Chief (Greg) Burns retires," the fire department shared on Facebook.

Nelson grew up in Reading and joined the staff as a firefighter and EMT in 1997. He was promoted to his current position last year, according to The Reading Post.
