Top Five Articles of 2011

As 2011 comes to a close, we take a look at the most popular articles of 2011.

This year is winding down and 2012 is right around the corner. Between making resolutions and looking forward to the new year, North Reading Patch is taking a look at 2011. In no particular order, here are the top five articles from this past year:

1. Zip Trip. Fox25's  on June 17. The live show was filmed at  with Fox25's Kim Carrigan, Gene Lavanchy, Cindy Fitzgibbon, and Doug VB Goudie. 

2. Stop and Shop. Last year  moved from one end of Route 28 to the other. The , but the former Stop and Shop location remains vacant.

3. Sheila Marie Imports strike. The  (SMI) had the town talking for weeks. Last July, 13 SMI employees went on strike and were joined by up to 80 additional teamsters at one time. The  and commanded a large police presence. SMI is now closed.

4. Winter Hill Bank robbery. Who could forget the  on April 9. The FBI Bank Robbery Task Force worked with  on the investigation, but no arrests have been made.

5. School building project. The Secondary Schools Building Committee (SSBC) presented the concept for a  at October Town Meeting. The  would cost a bit over $100 million and the state will pay half of the costs. The plan includes additions and renovations to the current  and a completely new  with shared core facilities. Here's a video produced by SSBC for a first-hand look at the current schools.
