Water Main Break Repaired

The water main break has been repaired and water service should be restored for all residents by 4 p.m.; you may experience discolored water.

The water main that has been repaired. Water will be restored to Park (between Main and Winter), Damon and Gould streets by approximately 4 p.m.

However, residents may continue to see affects from the incident, including discolored water, into the evening.

According to the Director of Public Works Richard Carnevale, the Water Department is in the process of filling the pipes.

"The Water Department is refilling the pipes with water (they have to be drained to fix the pipe) and then will open hydrants to flush out any air or discolored water."

Some may still experience discolored water. The discoloration comes from iron and manganese that gets into the water when they are refilled, Carnevale said.

If you experience discolored water, try running your water until it clears and do not wash clothes until at least 8 p.m. Be sure to run the cold and hot water at each fixture.

"Start with the fixture closest to the water pipe entering the home, typically the front of the house," Carnevale said.
