Councilor Yancey Wants a Mattapan High School next to Boston Nature Center

Would you like to see a Mattapan High School by the Mass Audubon Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary?

Boston District 4 City Councilor Charles Yancey has fought for a Mattapan High School for many years without luck.

Yancey, whose district includes Roslindale, recently refiled an order requesting a loan for $115-million to build a brand new high school on land next to Mass Audubon Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary on Walk Hill Street. That property abuts Roslindale and is on land of the old Boston state hospital.

Today Yancey, Hassan Mirza of Massachusetts Fair Share, and educator Luke Miller, are meeting at the property in support of a new school. And according to a Mass Fair Share press release, "to call on (US) Senator (Elizabeth) Warren to show her love for Boston by voting for a budget deal that will end sweetheart tax loopholes for corporations and rebuild our economy here at home."

According to the press release, "Speakers will outline Boston’s most pressing economic problems, and make the case for a simple solution: if we close corporate tax loopholes and outdated subsidies, we can raise $200 billion a year to spend on our priorities. Here in Massachusetts, we are losing $1.7 billion in state tax revenue to offshore tax havens alone. Senator Warren should demand that corporations pay their fair share so that we can solve our budget problems and put more money to work here in Massachusetts."
