Hebrew SeniorLife sensory rooms are now available for patients at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center campuses in Roslindale and at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham.

Sensory rooms allow persons living with neurocognitive diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and delirium to stimulate all five senses in a safe environment.

Hebrew Rehabilitation Center established the rooms to provide patient entertainment and engagement free from cognitive demands.

Benefits of sensory rooms include:

  • Decreased agitation and wandering behavior
  • Improved mood and well-being
  • Improved relationship between patient and caregiver
  • Enhanced quality of life
  • Increased concentration

In the sensory room, the focus is on the patient's strengths rather than their limitations. For example, patients with hearing loss can focus on bright, neon-colored objects, projector screens, and hands-on experiences rather than activities that incorporate music.
